My Nintendo repair kit came in the mail last week, and I’ve been busy restoring all my old games to working condition. This is the only time when video games have felt like a bona fide hobby rather than a simple time waster detracting from the more fulfilling areas of my life. It’s also cool to finally see what the insides of the games look like. When I was a kid, I imagined these things to be stuffed with impossibly complicated wires and knobs and things. But no, there’s nothing inside the cartridge except for this tiny green board.

Who would have thought that it could happen to me?
